Human CLTC Gene Overview

Gene Name clathrin heavy chain
Gene Symbol CLTC
Synonyms Hc,CHC,CHC17,MRD56,CLH-17,CLTCL2
NCBI ID 1213
Ensembl ID ENSG00000141367
Uniprot ID Q00610
Gene Type Protein coding

Gene Summary

Clathrin is a major protein component of the cytoplasmic face of intracellular organelles, called coated vesicles and coated pits. These specialized organelles are involved in the intracellular trafficking of receptors and endocytosis of a variety of macromolecules. The basic subunit of the clathrin coat is composed of three heavy chains and three light chains. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Mouse Cltc Gene Overview

Gene Name clathrin heavy chain
Gene Symbol Cltc
Synonyms CHC,3110065L21Rik
NCBI ID 67300
Ensembl ID ENSMUSG00000047126
Uniprot ID Q68FD5
Gene Type Protein coding

Gene Summary

Enables protein kinase binding activity. Predicted to be involved in several processes, including amyloid-beta clearance by transcytosis; endocytosis; and negative regulation of hyaluronan biosynthetic process. Predicted to act upstream of or within mitotic spindle assembly. Located in clathrin-coated pit. Part of membrane coat. Is active in several cellular components, including photoreceptor ribbon synapse; postsynaptic endocytic zone; and presynaptic endocytic zone membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including brain; early embryo; placenta; and unsegmented mesenchyme. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in autosomal dominant intellectual developmental disorder 56. Orthologous to human CLTC (clathrin heavy chain).
