Human CSF3 Gene Overview

Gene Name colony stimulating factor 3
Gene Symbol CSF3
Synonyms GCSF,CSF3OS,C17orf33
NCBI ID 1440
Ensembl ID ENSG00000108342
Uniprot ID P09919
Gene Type Protein coding

Gene Summary

This gene encodes a member of the IL-6 superfamily of cytokines. The encoded cytokine controls the production, differentiation, and function of granulocytes. Granulocytes are a type of white blood cell that are part of the innate immune response. A modified form of this protein is commonly administered to manage chemotherapy-induced neutropenia. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, May 2020]

Gene Symbol Csf3
Synonyms Csfg,G-CSF,MGI-IG
NCBI ID 12985
Ensembl ID ENSMUSG00000038067
Uniprot ID P09920
Gene Type Protein coding

Gene Summary

Enables granulocyte colony-stimulating factor receptor binding activity. Acts upstream of or within positive regulation of myeloid cell differentiation. Predicted to be located in endocytic vesicle lumen and extracellular region. Predicted to be active in extracellular space. Is expressed in several structures, including hemolymphoid system; liver; placenta; trunk; and yolk sac. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in several diseases, including allergic cutaneous vasculitis; artery disease (multiple); ischemia (multiple); leukemia (multiple); and lung disease (multiple). Orthologous to human CSF3 (colony stimulating factor 3). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Jul 2025]
