Human MALAT1 Gene Overview

Gene Name metastasis associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1
Gene Symbol MALAT1
Synonyms HCN,NEAT2,PRO2853,miPEP-52,LINC00047,NCRNA00047
NCBI ID 378938
Ensembl ID ENSG00000251562
Uniprot ID
Gene Type ncRNA

Gene Summary

This gene produces a precursor transcript from which a long non-coding RNA is derived by RNase P cleavage of a tRNA-like small ncRNA (known as mascRNA) from its 3' end. The resultant mature transcript lacks a canonical poly(A) tail but is instead stabilized by a 3' triple helical structure. This transcript is retained in the nucleus where it is thought to form molecular scaffolds for ribonucleoprotein complexes. It may act as a transcriptional regulator for numerous genes, including some genes involved in cancer metastasis and cell migration, and it is involved in cell cycle regulation. Its upregulation in multiple cancerous tissues has been associated with the proliferation and metastasis of tumor cells. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2015]

Mouse Malat1 Gene Overview

Gene Name metastasis associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (non-coding RNA)
Gene Symbol Malat1
Synonyms Neat2,2210401K01Rik,9430072K23Rik
NCBI ID 72289
Ensembl ID ENSMUSG00000092341
Uniprot ID
Gene Type ncRNA

Gene Summary

This gene produces a long non-coding RNA that is cleaved into a mature, functional transcript as well as a small cytoplasmic RNA (mascRNA). The mature transcript is stabilized by a 3' triple helical structure and is retained in the nucleus. This transcript functions in the regulation of gene expression and proliferation and may be upregulated in tumors. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2016]

Rat Map2k1 Gene Overview

Gene Name mitogen activated protein kinase kinase 1
Gene Symbol Map2k1
Synonyms Mek1
NCBI ID 170851
Ensembl ID ENSRNOG00000010176
Uniprot ID Q01986
Gene Type Protein coding

Gene Summary

Enables ATP binding activity; MAP kinase kinase activity; and enzyme binding activity. Involved in several processes, including positive regulation of metabolic process; regulation of intracellular signal transduction; and regulation of muscle contraction. Acts upstream of or within positive regulation of Ras protein signal transduction. Located in several cellular components, including dendrite cytoplasm; perikaryon; and perinuclear region of cytoplasm. Is active in glutamatergic synapse and postsynaptic density. Used to study cataract and prostate adenocarcinoma. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in carcinoma (multiple); cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome 3; high grade glioma; and melorheostosis. Orthologous to human MAP2K1 (mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 1). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Jul 2025]
