Human NAMPT Gene Overview

Gene Name nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase
Gene Symbol NAMPT
Synonyms VF,PBEF,PBEF1,VISFATIN,1110035O14Rik
NCBI ID 10135
Ensembl ID ENSG00000105835
Uniprot ID P43490
Gene Type Protein coding

Gene Summary

This gene encodes a protein that catalyzes the condensation of nicotinamide with 5-phosphoribosyl-1-pyrophosphate to yield nicotinamide mononucleotide, one step in the biosynthesis of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide. The protein belongs to the nicotinic acid phosphoribosyltransferase (NAPRTase) family and is thought to be involved in many important biological processes, including metabolism, stress response and aging. This gene has a pseudogene on chromosome 10. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2011]

Mouse Nampt Gene Overview

Gene Name nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase
Gene Symbol Nampt
Synonyms Pbef,Pbef1,Visfatin,NAmPRTase,1110035O14Rik
NCBI ID 59027
Ensembl ID ENSMUSG00000020572
Uniprot ID Q99KQ4
Gene Type Protein coding

Gene Summary

Enables identical protein binding activity and nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase activity. Involved in circadian regulation of gene expression; nicotinamide metabolic process; and nicotinamide nucleotide biosynthetic process. Acts upstream of or within NAD biosynthetic process. Located in cytoplasm. Is active in cytosol and mitochondrial matrix. Is expressed in several structures, including alimentary system; genitourinary system; integumental system; nervous system; and sensory organ. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in transient cerebral ischemia. Orthologous to human NAMPT (nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Apr 2025]
