Human NEUROD1 Gene Overview

Gene Name neuronal differentiation 1
Gene Symbol NEUROD1
Synonyms T2D,BETA2,BHF-1,MODY6,NEUROD,bHLHa3
NCBI ID 4760
Ensembl ID ENSG00000162992
Uniprot ID Q13562
Gene Type Protein coding

Gene Summary

This gene encodes a member of the NeuroD family of basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factors. The protein forms heterodimers with other bHLH proteins and activates transcription of genes that contain a specific DNA sequence known as the E-box. It regulates expression of the insulin gene, and mutations in this gene result in type II diabetes mellitus. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Mouse Neat1 Gene Overview

Gene Name nuclear paraspeckle assembly transcript 1 (non-protein coding)
Gene Symbol Neat1
Synonyms VINC,2310043N10Rik
NCBI ID 66961
Ensembl ID ENSMUSG00000092274
Uniprot ID
Gene Type ncRNA

Gene Summary

This gene produces a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) that is retained in the nucleus where it forms the core structural component of the paraspeckle sub-organelles. It may act as a transcriptional regulator for numerous genes, including some genes involved in cancer progression. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2015]

Rat Neurod1 Gene Overview

Gene Name neuronal differentiation 1
Gene Symbol Neurod1
Synonyms
NCBI ID 29458
Ensembl ID ENSRNOG00000005609
Uniprot ID Q64289
Gene Type Protein coding

Gene Summary

Enables double-stranded DNA binding activity. Involved in several processes, including cellular response to glucose stimulus; positive regulation of neuron differentiation; and positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Located in cytoplasm and nucleus. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in glucose intolerance; hyperglycemia; maturity-onset diabetes of the young type 6; type 1 diabetes mellitus; and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Orthologous to human NEUROD1 (neuronal differentiation 1). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Jul 2025]
