Human YAP1 Gene Overview

Gene Name Yes1 associated transcriptional regulator
Gene Symbol YAP1
Synonyms YAP,YKI,COB1,YAP2,YAP-1,YAP65
NCBI ID 10413
Ensembl ID ENSG00000137693
Uniprot ID P46937
Gene Type Protein coding

Gene Summary

This gene encodes a downstream nuclear effector of the Hippo signaling pathway which is involved in development, growth, repair, and homeostasis. This gene is known to play a role in the development and progression of multiple cancers as a transcriptional regulator of this signaling pathway and may function as a potential target for cancer treatment. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2013]

Mouse Yap1 Gene Overview

Gene Name yes-associated protein 1
Gene Symbol Yap1
Synonyms Yap,Yki,Yap65,Yorkie
NCBI ID 22601
Ensembl ID ENSMUSG00000053110
Uniprot ID P46938
Gene Type Protein coding

Gene Summary

This gene encodes a protein which binds to the SH3 domain of the Yes proto-oncogene product, a tyrosine kinase. This protein contains a WW domain, consisting of four conserved aromatic amino acids including two tryptophan residues. This conserved WW domain is found in various structural, regulatory and signaling molecules in various species, and may play a role in protein-protein interaction. Following cellular damage, phosphorylation of this encoded protein may suppress apoptosis. This protein may be involved in malignant transformation in cancer. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2010]
